Investment
Investment
in any property is a significant decision and it
is important to ensure that the investor has clear
title to the asset. When investing
abroad it is also important to ensure local taxes are
minimised and that no other restrictions apply to foreign
investors.
The following summarises the key investor
protection measures available for foreign investors
in Montenegro (source: UK DTI & Montenegro
Government):
· Since
2000 Montenegro has opened its property market to attract
foreign investment in compliance with EU and International
standards.
· The
subsequent changes in the land laws of Montenegro give
foreign investors equal status with Montenegrin investors,
with full deeds and title to land and real estate.
· To
further encourage foreign investment the DTI introduced
a ‘UK Trade Partnership’ in 2003
to re-build pre-troubles trade links with the UK.
· EU,
US and UN have each introduced measures to assist during
privatisation transition.
· The
Government of Montenegro has introduced legislation
to support and encourage investment, which includes
Free Trade Zone status for suitable foreign investments,
repatriation of earnings and residency rights.
